We all know what is Short Message Service, or SMS, and we use it daily but, do we know every kind of way to SMS?
One of the most common ways to SMS is Interactive SMS and it is based on the idea that a mobile user starts the process by sending an SMS to the application (MO), and consequently a response is generated to said user (MT).
Examples:
- Balance inquiry.
- Contest participation.
- Consultation overview (weather, prices, etc).
On the other hand, we have Corporate SMS. This system is based on the logic of sending messages from an application to a single user or group of users.
Examples:
- Alert of a credit card consumption.
- Event invitation.
- Promotions or offers.
Short code number:
In order to implement interactive SMS service, it is necessary to have a short number. The short code is enabled on all mobile operators, and it is used as the destination number to which the user must send a text message to initiate interaction with an application.
According to the behavior
In addition, there are different types of SMS messages according to the behavior to be received. There are more than one way to SMS under this criterion:
Class 0 (FlashSMS): The message text is automatically displayed on the screen of the receiving phone, but not stored in memory.
Class 1: Currently one of the two most common types. When received, the message is stored in the phone memory and the user will have the option to read it on the screen.
Class 2: The other common type. In this case, the message is stored in the memory of the SIM card and the user will have the option to read it on the screen.
Class 3: The message is stored in the memory of the SIM card and the phone receives an external application running on a computer which is connected to this phone.
